About Our Club

Founded in 1972, the objectives of KSSC are:

to encourage and promote quality in the breeding of pure bred Shetland Sheepdogs and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection:
to promote Shetland Sheepdogs in conformation and performance, and to urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by The American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Shetland Sheepdogs shall be judged:
to do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows and performance events:
to conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows and performance events under the rules of The American Kennel Club

We are a group of people who love all things Sheltie! We participate in a variety of venues and dog sports. Members come mostly from throughout Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and the Louisville Metro area. However, our membership is unrestricted due to residence. Many of our meetings are held on Zoom, so we welcome members from outside our area. KSSC is the only American Shetland Sheepdog Association (ASSA) affiliated club in Kentucky; we are also recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC). We are about: Inviting, Promoting, and Supporting all who love Shelties!

How Do I Join KSSC?
We welcome new members. If you are looking for a Sheltie club to join, here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Make contact. Either:

Attend a membership meeting. Our meetings are generally held every other month. Dates and locations vary, so please check our calendar for the next meeting. Most meetings are hybrid in-person and on Zoom.

Send an email to our President or Membership Chair.

You will need two members in good standing as sponsors.

Step 2: Submit an Application.

Fill out one of the application forms on the left. Send your application and dues to the Membership Chair. Make checks payable to KSSC. Mail your application and fee check to Membership Chair, 1612 Veechdale Rd, Simpsonville, KY, 40067.

Types of membership:

Individual – open to all persons 18 years and older. Enjoy all club privileges including the right to vote and hold office. Annual membership fee is $15.

Household – consisting of up to four persons residing at the same address. This includes adults and children under 18. Adult members are entitled to vote and hold office. Annual membership fee is $20.

Seniors – open to persons 65 or older. Annual membership fee is $13.

Juniors only – open to persons 10 through 17 years of age. Junior members are not eligible to vote or hold office. Annual membership is $13.

Associate – open to persons 18 years and older who due to special circumstances may choose to apply for Associate Membership. Associate members pay partial dues, cannot vote or hold office, and do not count towards a quorum. Associate membership is assessed only on application to the Board.

Life Membership – KSSC members in good standing for at least 30 years. Life Members are not required to pay dues but have all the privileges of Individual membership. Life membership is given to eligible members on recommendation from the Board.

Step 3: Reviews and Vote

Your application will be read at the first Board of Directors meeting after it is received. With a 2/3 majority vote from the Board, the application is then presented to the membership at the next regular membership meeting. With a 3/4 affirmative vote of club members in attendance, you will be welcomed into KSSC!

As part of membership in KSSC, members:

…agree to the principles of the Code of Ethics of The American Shetland Sheepdog Association, The Kentuckiana Shetland Sheepdog Club, and The American Kennel Club and will honor those principals and ethics as a member of KSSC.
